TRINITY, NC, July 31, 2007 — Residents of The Salvation Army of North Las Vegas’ shelter program may rest a little easier tonight, thanks to Sealy, the world’s largest bedding manufacturer, which delivered 80 new mattress sets today to help give program residents a safe night’s sleep.
"All of us at Sealy are committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate because we care about our neighbors in need," said Dave McIlquham, Chairman and CEO of Sealy Corporation. "I’m continually impressed with the remarkable generosity of our employees. Numerous members of our staff have worked hard for several months on this initiative, from planning and logistics to producing 80 mattress sets specifically for The Salvation Army of North Las Vegas."
The donation will replace aging mattresses currently used in the non-profit’s Men's Adult Rehabilitation Shelter, which supports individuals who suffer from substance abuse.
"The Salvation Army has a solid history of helping those in need and we are honored to partner with such an outstanding organization," said McIlquham. "Its shelter program provides more than just a roof and warm meals. They provide much-needed hope to our neighbors during times of despair."
While many people associate The Salvation Army with its annual "Red Kettle" campaign during Christmas, the organization works year-round to strengthen the community through many ongoing initiatives. The Salvation Army of Las Vegas serves more than 700 local residents each night through its shelter program, alone.
"We are thrilled to partner with Sealy to better serve our shelter residents," said Major William Raihl of The Salvation Army of Las Vegas. "Sealy’s generous donation illustrates its desire to make a difference in our community by supporting our neighbors who are in need."
North Las Vegas Mayor Michael Montandon also is a strong supporter of The Salvation Army of North Las Vegas. As a former member of the organization’s Advisory Council, he has spearheaded various events, such as food donation drives, in support of its programs.
"Sealy’s donation to The Salvation Army of North Las Vegas is a great illustration of the powerful difference we can make when individuals, companies and service organizations work together to better our community," said Montandon. "My hope is that today’s donation will inspire all of us to continue working to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate."
